MBA Personal Statements

I’m currently a business major with a focus in finance. At the end of this semester, I plan to change my focus to management and operations. I plan on going to graduate school to get an MBA at some point. I researched a few schools, namely Boston College Carroll school of management, Umass Isenberg school of management, CUNY Baruch Zicklin school of business and Boston University school of management. Out of the four, only two of them actually provided guidelines for a personal statement or admission essay prompts.

UMass Isenberg:

Personal Statement should reflect a strong sense of career direction. Within this personal statement, candidates should also highlight traits, skills, and past athletic and work experiences that are relevant to their applications.

BU School of Management:

      words);

      program that you have chosen, i.e. MS·MBA, Health Sector MBA, Public and

      Nonprofit MBA, or One-Year International MBA (250 words);

      your post-MBA career goals (250 words)

  2. Tell the Admission Committee about a time when it cost you to maintain your integrity and what you learned from the experience. Would you make the same decision again if given the chance? (250 words)
  3. Answer three of the following six short answer sentences: (100 words each)
    1. My colleagues would describe me as…
    2. An interesting fact about me is…
    3. I am most passionate about… It makes me unique because…
    4. The business or organizational leader I most admire is… because…
    5. My greatest life experience was when…
    6. The opportunity I most regret not taking advantage of was…
  4. (Optional) Provide any additional information, not addressed elsewhere in your application materials, which will help the Admission Committee learn more about your candidacy. Please address any employment gaps, strengths or weaknesses. (500 words)

It is difficult to write a personal statement for an MBA program at this point in my life, because it is nearly impossible to be accepted to a business school immediately after undergraduate. Nearly all business schools look for several years of real world experience, and some of these essay prompts require real-world experience in order to answer. I’ve decided to answer prompt number 3 from BU school of management.
